The Competition

University teams compete in three distinct classes

AeroCup Portugal is a yearly university aeronautical competition where teams design, build, and fly UAVs. Each class offers a different level of challenge — from pure engineering design to fully autonomous flight.

DC

Design Class

Static Events Only

Focus on engineering excellence without building an aircraft. Teams demonstrate mastery through design analysis, documentation, and manufacturing strategy.

  • Submit engineering design report
  • Engineering design event
  • Cost and manufacturing event
  • No aircraft build required
MC

Manual Class

Static + Dynamic Events

Design, build, and manually pilot your aircraft through a full programme of static evaluations and flight performance events.

  • Same evaluation events as Design Class
  • Manual takeoff performance event
  • Manual flight performance event
  • Manual air drop event
AC

Automatic Class

Static + Dynamic Events

The most demanding class — your aircraft must complete autonomous missions including waypoint navigation, automatic landing, and air drops.

  • Same evaluation events as Design Class
  • Automatic takeoff performance event
  • Automatic flight performance event
  • Automatic air drop event
